Main research area: Neotropical biodiversity
Research lines:
Line 1 - Systematics and evolution
It addresses taxonomic, phylogenetic and biogeographic studies, based on the integration of macro and micro morphological, biochemical and genetic data, in order to understand evolutionary processes and propose natural classifications focusing on the Brazilian biota.
Line 2 - Structure and functioning of biodiversity
It proposes to understand the organization of populations and communities of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, their interactions, morphophysiological, behavioral and reproductive responses in adaptation to environmental conditions, besides to providing theoretical-practical bases for the conservation of biodiversity and for the environmental balance.
Line 3 - Uses and management of biodiversity
It focuses on the applied study of biodiversity, including researches related to physiology, biological control, management and use of biota, among others, in order to address environmental and economic concerns of society.
